Siim Rast won silver at the World Powerlifting Championships

The World Powerlifting Championships were held in Helsingborg from June 4-15, where the Reval athlete Siim Rast achieved an excellent second place in the 120+ weight category!

The silver medal result this time was 940 kilos (total). Rast also set a new Estonian record in the classic bench press: 257,5 kilos. The gold medalist was not far behind, but our athlete narrowly missed the final deadlift of 372,5 kilos.

"A tough competition, but tactically we managed to lose all the pounds so that the deadlift would be a little lighter. After the second pull and having secured silver, we also went to try for gold, but it was still a little difficult. I am very satisfied with the competition, especially with the deadlift, where we managed to set a new record. A medal won in very close competition is always sweet," said Rast.

"We haven't seen anything like this in Estonian powerlifting for a long time. Our man was still very close to gold. But being second in the world is definitely an honor!" said Kaido Leesmann, president of the Estonian Powerlifting Federation.
